The coke example Brandon gave is a good one. The essence of zero-sum games is just like he said: what one player gains is exactly offset by what the other player loses, so the sum of payoffs equals zero. That's why they're called zero-sum games. If you want to learn more about game theory (not only zero-sum) in a very simple way, I recommend the book "Games, Strategies, and Managers" by John McMillan (Oxford University Press, 1992). What I liked about this book is how it makes the connection between game theory and strategic situations of real life. [Manage messages]
